Job Searching Tips for 2017

2016 I had seen quite a bit of turnover, which means as an employer...JOB OPENINGS!

This means opportunities for you... the job seeker. The issue is that even though there were job opportunities in the year 2016, as an employer it was challenging to find the right talent to fill these vacancies.

Here are some TOP TIPS to take you into the New Year so that you can be on top of your job searching game.

1. APPLY APPLY APPLY

For all of the young university/college grads reading this... just apply ! There was quite a shortage of applicants this past year, which resulted in a small candidate pool. Even if a job description says 3-5 years experience, you do not know who your competition is. You could have been the most experienced person who applied that day. Even if you just receive a phone interview, trust me you have now just made a connection that might lead to something greater down the line.

2. IT'S A NUMBERS GAME

When job hunting you literally have to put all of your energy into finding a new position. The more resumes you send out, the more chances you have for getting an interview.

3. READ THE JOB DESCRIPTION

Make sure that when you apply you just don't apply and forget about the position. I tell all my clients to keep a notebook with the positions they have applied for and with a print out of the job description details so that when a recruiter calls you, you can be well versed about the position and not seem like you just applied without even reading the job description.

4. EMPLOYERS ARE LOOKING FOR TOP TALENT

As for me, I realized that employers are now looking for the BEST employees who can bring the most value to the company. They are looking to hire you and see that as an investment, so make sure you do your homework and come prepared to an interview! You can loose the competition just as quickly as you were invited to interview if you are unprepared.
